Water Etching: Sunday November 15th

Water Etching: Sunday November 15th

Sunday November 15th: Water Etching

10:30-1 pm

We will be transferring designs onto practice tiles or directly onto one or two pieces of leather hard pottery, painting the design with shellac and subtracting clay around the design with water and a sponge. One or two more layers of depth can be achieved by repeating the process. At the end of the class the final work should be one or two pieces of water etched pottery ready for bisque firing.

Materials supplied: 2 leather hard practice tiles, a book of patterns and designs, masking wax, paint brushes, a bucket and sponges.

Students should bring: 2 smooth leather hard trimmed pots made with B mix or porcelain (these should not be made with sandy or groggy clay because sand or grog will destroy the masked design) and any design or pattern they would like to use.

Clay Can be purchased from Art Haus. Recommended clays for the class are bmix ($25) or porcelain ($30). No outside clay will be aloud in the studio.
