Materials Needed for Watercolor
-Watercolor paper pad
Cold press or rough in texture
140+lbs/300gsm
Recommended brands: Canson, Fabriano, Winsor Newton, Arches,
9”x12” or larger
-Brushes: synthetic brushes made specifically for watercolor
1 medium sized round brush (10-12)
1 large sized round brush (16-18)
1 medium flat brush (optional)
-Pencil and eraser (any will work, 4H pencil and kneaded eraser are best)
-Palette: can be plastic tray, ceramic tray, or even an old porcelain plate
-Rag or Paper towel
-Masking tape or artists tape (optional)
-Watercolor tube paints: Cadmium yellow, Cadmium Red, Ultramarine Blue (a small set of watercolor paints in the tube will also work, dry watercolors are acceptable but not preferred)
Note, a small range of colors is not a bad thing, because it will teach you to mix colors instead. When buying a set or individual paints don’t spend a ton of money on a huge range of colors!
Examples: Watercolor tube paints (Windsor Newton etc..) can be bought individually, small watercolor sets such as Cotman travel set may also work.
