Curious about digital art? Join us for this beginner-friendly introduction to Procreate. In this two-hour workshop, you'll learn the essential tools and techniques needed to confidently begin creating digital artwork on your iPad.
 
Together, the class will complete a beautiful botanical illustration from start to finish while learning the fundamentals of Procreate. By focusing on one guided project, you'll gain hands-on experience using the app's most important features and leave with a finished digital artwork and the confidence to continue creating on your own.
 
What You'll Learn
Navigating the Procreate interface
Creating a new canvas
Using brushes for sketching and inking
Working with layers
Creating clean linework
Using ColorDrop for quick coloring
Clipping Masks and Alpha Lock for non-destructive coloring
Adding simple shading and highlights
Basic blending techniques
Exporting and saving your finished artwork
 
Class Project
Students will follow along step-by-step to create an elegant botanical illustration featuring leaves and florals. Throughout the project, you'll learn how professional digital artists build an illustration from an initial sketch to a polished, finished piece using Procreate's powerful tools.
 
Skill Level
Beginner. No previous Procreate experience is required.
 
Materials Required
Students must bring:
An iPad compatible with Procreate
Apple Pencil or compatible digital stylus
The Procreate app purchased and downloaded prior to class
A fully charged iPad (bringing your charger is recommended)
 
By the end of the workshop, you'll leave with a completed botanical illustration, a solid understanding of Procreate's core tools, and the skills to begin creating your own digital artwork.
